A home visit is where a
volunteer that we contact, goes to the home of a person or family interested
in adopting from BHRA and meets with all members of the household that live
there. They talk about Bassets, BHRA and ask questions of the potential adoption
applicant. They answer any questions that the applicant may have about dogs,
health care, training, etc. A home visit has to be performed before an applicant
can adopt a basset from BHRA.
If the applicant has previously adopted from us and has not moved, a home visit
may not have to be done again.
We have a check sheet of questions that the volunteer can use to help guide them
on the visit. We also encourage the volunteer to take "their basset" if they
have one or if convenient, they can sometimes bring the Basset the people are
interested in adopting with them on the visit.
We truly need people willing to
do home visits all over the country. We have quite a few out-of-state
adoptions! If you would like to volunteer to do home visits, the
Home Visit Coordinator would be
happy to talk with you about the process. Please contact her and give her some
basic information as to where you are and availability times.
