Update:  May 2010

Lady arrived at BHRA in January 2009 as a 24 pound little tiny 5 year old hound.  She is still a little thing weighing only 29 lbs currently.  As with many,  it looked like she had recently had a litter of pups.  She had the regular medical workup and spay with nothing out of the ordinary on examination.  In February 2010, she had her annual check up and again nothing out of the ordinary. In April she began having accidents in the house and testing showed urinary tract infection and an antibiotic was prescribed. Then early in May, accidents continued again and a bit of blood was seen.  So back to the Vet.  A cystotomy was done as well as a bladder wall scraping as it seemed not quite normal.  Again put on an antibiotic.  The a week later the lab report of the scraping was back. The good news was there  was no bacterial infection, the tiny stone was usual, but the scraping indicated she has transitional cell carcinoma. This is a bad cancer and the prognosis is anywhere from 3 -9 months with treatment of an antibiotic and eventually with prednisone. Sadly there is not any saving treatment. Only 16% who are given radiation/chemo survive. Dr. Borden feels this has been diagnosed early so she hopefully will have the longer time.

Lady's foster mom has agreed to keep her in her home for the rest of her little life...and love her and care for her.  BHRA is very grateful to have such a dedicated  volunteer willing to take on the task of caring for a terminally ill hound.  Lady has been in the care of Mary McCullough for over a year now and they have grown to love each other very much.  Thank you for the loving care, Mary!

If you are able to donate even a few dollars for her medicine and vet care it would be greatly appreciated.  She is going to require a lot of medical attention in the coming months, and anything you can do to help would make a huge difference.  If you would like to donate to Lady's medical care, please click on the "Sponsor Me" link above.

Needless to say we are all very sad, especially those who have provided her foster care since being in BHRA.  These little hounds are so precious and often taken far too soon.

Thanks you so much!!!

Lady's original adoption information

Hi people!  My name is Lady and I am SUPER sweet and loveable! I am crate- trained and I am pretty good in the potty training department! I know how to use a doggie door!  I like to sleep (that’s my favorite activity!!), watch TV, ride in the car and I even don’t mind bath time!  I am not an alpha dog at all and I get along with all the dogs I meet. In fact, I also get along well with people of all ages, including kids!!  I walk well on a leash and I am just so happy to meet everything I come in contact with.  I was pretty scared and skittish when I first came to BHRA from a puppy mill...but I am no longer so insecure and I am enjoying my foster family and just having fun!  If you'd like more info on me, please contact my foster Mom!  She'd love to tell you all about cute little sweet me!
