My name is Donna Moore and my husband AL and I adopted Blake last year. He has been such a wonderful addition to our family. He is very smart. He has his own room our Florida room and everyday he gets to walk thru his english garden in the backyard and smell the flowers. He has his very own couch and chair which he loves to snuggle up in. He has even become good friends with our 86 year old neighbor, whom everyday has to take Blake into his backyard to visit. He is such a sweet boy and I thank you BHRA for having such a wonderful organization that helps find so many wonderful and beautiful animals loving homes. I have enclosed for you some pictures and as you can see Blake looks like he is smiling in one of his photos.

Micky is a great joy; I brought him to Virginia in spring of 2001, and he mush-roomed from 42 pounds to 53 and is the consummate Southern gentleman. He has a heart of gold and a personality I've not seen in many humans. Micky is so bonded with his little brother Oscar that the two sleep together, heads in different directions resting on the others' rumps, in a leather club chair. They eat from one bowl and every evening is a "basset rumble." I am very grateful to BHRA for putting us together and trying to make sure I got the right dog for my lifestyle. I support you whenever I can.

Dear BHRA,

I just wanted to write and let you know how much I love the home that you placed me in two years ago (people years, not dog years that is). I love my new family! They take me for walks, They have a big fenced yard on the farm so I can run around doing the "Basset 500" and play catch until I'm all tuckered out. I like to chase my big brother and sister around until they give me big hugs, and I also like to step on dad's feet until he pets me and scratches under my ears....it always works. I like to sneak up on mommy and touch her leg with my cold nose...makes her jump every time (he he he). I'm occasionally doing a little modeling work for Grandma's pet bowl business too. It's fun, but I'm not the "Glamour Girl" type. Give me a quite home on the farm and I'm happy as a Basset Hound on a ...well...farm. During the winter time (It gets cold up here!) I like to curl up next to the radiator outside Mom & dad's room. During the summer time (it gets hot up here!) I crash out in Mom & dads room next to their bed. I just drag my bed where ever I like. I have a couple of new cousins too. They are both Japanese Chins that Grandma brings over to play with me. They can't keep up when I get going...but I like them and they are fun to play with anyway.

Well, I just wanted to let you know that I really love it here and I'm taking good care of my new family.

Hugs and slobbery kisses,

Rhea Basset (Schultz)

We adopted Hank (formerly Sherman) about a year ago and he has been keeping us busy ever since! He is our big baby weighing in at nearly 70 pounds!
Everywhere we go people crowd around us wanting to see him because he is such a beautiful dog. He has fit right in (well with a little upgrading, we had to buy a king size bed to accommodate all 3 dogs!) and made this his home and we are so glad to call him part of the family. Even our other 2 dogs love him...most of the time! Thanks BHRA for taking such good care of our boy before we got him, it was a great experience working with ya'll during the adoption process! Hank thanks you for saving his life and giving him a new family.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of our friends in Enterprise Alabama after the tragic tornados of last week.  Two of our BHRA bassets recently went to their new home in Enterprise, and we are tickled to hear that they are safe and sound!

Well: our new parents brought us to Enterprise.  Well we had quite a scare.  Our People are ok and so we.  We did have almost loose some people in our new family but thanks to the Good Lord She is ok.  Keep the people in our new town in your prayers and any help would be appreciated to the people here in Enterprise.

Christy Schaefer

P.S.

Our people have renamed us Crickett and Bama.

AJ is now Sally. We love Sally more than life. She is the most wonderful and affectionate dog I have ever had in my life. Of course, if you don't watch it, the counter cruising part of her life is very quick.  We finally learned recently that we must put the bread up in the counter-8 inches above her nose. She can wolf down a loaf in 1 minute flat. Too strange. Her best friend is a new addition to our family. This new addition is named Trixie-a 8 month old female cat. I have enclosed a picture for you. They are adorable together.

Xavier with Biggie and Kodiak!

Xavier with his hiking buddies, Biggie the Newphy and Kodiak the Lab.  We also usually have a Cavalier (X just loves her) and several other fur buddies.  X loves getting together with all his dog friends. We are now hiking 2 hours at a time and X is doing great.  He loves it.  He is eating us out of house and home.  We have now started feeding him 4 x's a day.

I could not ask for a better hound.  He is just an awesome friend and companion.

Hello!

We adopted Dottie (but changed her name to Emma) about 2 years ago.  The moment she walked.. er sashayed into our house she was a perfect fit.  She was an owner surrender, who could resist that face and those eyes?  Her "brother" is Wilbur and is absolutely crazy about his sister. They are completely spoiled and wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks again ,

Hi!

Barney (Arthur) has now been here two months, though it's hard to imagine life before he arrived. He's a love bug in a Basset suit, plays like a wild man and is a power napper. Not sure how we lived without him here! He has settled right into the pack. And now Zuma (Frankie) and Doheny (Casey) have been here almost a year. They are a joy to be around. Miss Doheny runs the show, after initially following her brother's lead, and Zuma has turned into the major Drama King! Try to make him do something he doesn't want to do and boy, does he bellow and cry like you're killing him. I used to think he was hurt in some crazy way, now I know it's all show. I love to watch Zuma and Doheny run around the yard - they race side by side like a well matched team of horses. Amazing watching them turn corners perfectly together. As you can see in the photo, Zuma is also hopelessly in love with my Saint Bernard, Hannah.

Thanks so much for all the hard work, and helping to get these wonderful kids up here to New Hampshire to share my life!

Hey,
Just wanted to let you know "baby girl" is doing great. She sleeps all night now, plays great with Cowboy, and loves to hunt critters at the back of the lot, and she loves my husband. She's a very sweet dog and I think she'll be great. We both Thank You for helping us find just the right baby.

Thank you very much...

Just to let you all know, J.T., who we have decided to re-name Louie, is doing very well. He's been running and wrestling and bonding with Sophie. He's also a shameless mama's boy, sticking very close to my wife, Saline. Attached are a couple photos from our first weekend. In the first Louie's cuddling with Sophie (him on the right). In the second he's demonstrating how it's going to be when Saline is available.

Hello,

My name is Shawna Farrell and last May my mother and I adopted Ralphie from BHRA. We had lost a very young basset to a long illness and were heartbroken. After a few month we looked on line just for fun and came across your website. To make a long story short we had Ralphie all the way here in Maine less than a month later. We could'nt have asked for a better dog. He is the sweetest boy and everyone who meets him falls in love as quickly as we did. He has a brother and a sister who he plays with in the backyard and goes to the beach with. He really LOVES the snow and the cold and gets very excited to play in it. He is a light in our lives and a true gift! Thank you for him and all you do to help the hounds in need.

This is an update from Kim Fawley on a recently adopted puppy named Janie, now renamed Abbie.  Here she is with the rawhide she took from Jack and the other one is a pic of Jack waiting patiently to get it back from her.  She is doing very well. That is a lot of bone for a little baby like Abbie!  Great to see she is doing so well!!!

Hi,

We adopted Gretchen (aka basset diva) little over a year ago.  We fell in love with her feminine face on the BHRA website.  We wanted a sibling for our basset hound Roscoe but wanted a basset that needed a home.  At first she was very timid but with Roscoe's help and a third basset we got from Junior Humane Society she has truly blossomed.  She loves to dance to get attention and will bark at us if we are sitting where she wants to sit which we usually give in to her.  She doesn't just wag her tail but her whole body too.  Gretchen is a great addition to our family.  I  only wish we had more room for more BHRA bassets.

To those of you considering adoption or fostering think of the lives you are saving.  Either one is very rewarding.

Maggie with Michael and Griffin Cerase

Hi!

We adopted Aggie almost a year ago.  She has become a great part of our family.  We did alter her name slightly to Maggie because our dog that died 6 months prior to our getting Maggie was named Abby.  We kept calling Aggie, Abby.  So we added the "M" and she never even noticed.

We had never had a Basset before but I was aware that it was a good breed for children.  Maggie has a great personality.  My oldest son, Griffin, and I swear that we can actually tell what she wants by her expressions (which to the untrained Basset owner look exactly the same everyday, all-day).  We say that she speaks with her eyes.

To all those considering a Basset for the first time, I say they are great family dogs.  My only advice is to realize that they are hounds, they do become quite smelly in between baths and they shed constantly.  I go through a lot of Febreeze and sweep or run the vacuum almost everyday.  Our Maggie actually doesn't drool much at all.  The only time she drools is when she is riding in the car...we haven't quite figure that one out.  The bottom line is that any dog you bring into your family is going to present an adjustment or challenge but the positive things that they bring to your life definitely outweigh the negative.

I have attached a picture of her with her boys from Christmas (12/2006).  Maggie adores the boys...while they're at school each day she prefers to nap with something they wore the previous day.  She will grab a dirty sock, their pjs anything that she can get to and take it to her napping spot.  She sometimes tucks them in between the couch cushions to save it for later.  Her whole body wags when she hears the school bus.

We love Maggie and are glad she is a part of our family.  I think she is pretty happy about it too.

Thanks!
Joy Cerase

Hi!

My name is MAC and a few years ago I adopted Cammie to keep my Bassett Penrod company.  Cammie is a beautiful Basset she is mostly black and has a white mask on her face. She and Penrod were instant companions until his death a few months ago. (Penrod was 18 yrs old and died of old age) Cammie is up there now too but she is healthy and happy.  Anyway I didn't want her to be lonely so I came back to BHRA to find her a friend.  At first I was going to be a Foster Mom but I get too attached.  I was lucky enough to adopt Turk!!!  What a great fit.  Cammie and Turk just love each other and are happy to sit on the couch most of the day and watch TV.  They both only like to go out to take care of business and then come right back.  Turk is an older Bassett and is a real love bug.  He tries to talk to me often and just loves the attention I can give him.  I was so happy to find that he loves to sleep with me at night in my arm and snore in my ear just the way my Penrod did.

I never thought I could find another dog so much like my beloved Penrod  AM I A HAPPY CAMPER.  Thank you so much for the work you all are doing.

MAC
