I
wanted to let you know that Pearl is settling in. Things are much better
with the power back on! She ran the Basset 500 last night in the yard,
then the house when they were getting too loud, with Zuma and Kahuna.
That was the first time, but made me think she's getting more
comfortable. She's sleeping with me at night on the bed and is such a
good girl. No accidents at all since she arrived and whines to get me to
go out. Here are a few photos....one of her first night - wrapped up to
keep warm, and some Christmas photos.

BHRA-

Just wanted to give you an update on my life in Cape Coral, FL. My
forever family (James & Stacey Bohannon) adopted me in December 2006. I
came into my new home very weak from being part of a puppy mill bust.
Luckily for me, my new parents were eager to help me gain my strength.
It wasn’t long after joining the family, that I became strong and
energetic from running around w/ my adopted brother, Hank. His picture
is attached. We have become quite the pair and everyone asks if we’re
really brother and sister. We do look a lot alike, right down to our
markings.
J I was so excited
that my new family had a big backyard for me to play and dig and run.
Come to find out, we were moving very soon to a bigger home with an even
BIGGER yard! How exciting. We have now been in our new home for over 1
year and I can honestly say that I am more than happy. My parents just
recently bought me a new dog couch (maybe this is their hint to keeping
me off of theirs) and I thoroughly enjoy the comfort. Although, Hank
enjoys it too and tends to take over at times. After all, he is the
“alpha” dog, or so he thinks.

We’re all eagerly awaiting Christmas this year. My human sister, whom I adore, is almost two and is absolutely LOVING the Christmas tree. Although, everytime I try to drink from the water bowl under the tree I hear “Emma, NO!”. I don’t get it….but I guess I could be a bit less lazy and walk to my real water bowl. Also, my parents just hung up my stocking for Santa. I can’t wait to see what he brings. Hopefully, lots and lots of bones and chew toys. I love to chew!
Well, I better get back to whatever it is I do. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
-Emma Bohannon

Hello all,
I just wanted to thank you all for what each of you did through the whole process with rescuing Brutus. We just took the big boy to the vet today and got great news. Mr. Brutus is heart worm free (tested as a follow up) and is now a great weight at 43.8 lbs. This little guy couldn't have asked for better care and we thank everyone for their part in bringing him to us.
I included some pics...
Have a great Christmas and a safe one too. William Bledsoe

Just a recent pic of Becca -She is doing great and as you can see, eating
very well (please don't tell Dr Ellison -I'm already in trouble for Becca's
weight!). Since she has become heavier, which is her Dad's fault, she has a
little issue with the doggie door. You see, the doggie door is for a smaller
size dog, and we installed it before becoming involved with Bassets. Her
posterior gets stuck and sometimes makes a slight squeaking sound when she
goes thru. We have had to apply cooking oil to the frame from time to time
to be sure she doesn't get stuck. I know it is wrong, but when you see this
from behind, you think that she will never make it thru. (She is in not
danger -the frame of the doggie door is flexible, and the squeaking is just
a negotiation between the doggie door and the panel wall bending). She is
developing more and more personality as time goes by. She is very emotional,
and I like to compare her to "Pearl" from Sponge Bob cartoons.
She "requires" love on her terms, at her time, non-negotiable. She cries
uncontrollably when she wants love, and won't stop crying even after she is
getting attention. She only stops crying when she has had enough petting.
Also, her demands are on her schedule. It does not matter if you are dressed
for work or school with keys in hand -If it is time for petting, you are to
drop what you are doing and pet her or you are not to leave the house! If
you try, she will block your way and cry in such a way that it rips you to
the core! She won't forget a slight for days! You will be growled at if you
even walk past her... Speaking of growling -If you initiate a petting
session and she is not in the mood, you will receive a disciplinary growl.
No one knows what happens next, because we are not brave enough to cross
her. We just give her space. We have had many battles over the living room
recliner, aka Pop's chair. We are both stubborn, and the chair is too
small for both of us.
Generally, a significant bribe, such as half a sandwich, or meat is needed
for her to back down and leave the chair. Also, she wants a prime spot in
the bed, but not everyone will fit. If she beats anyone to bedtime, it will
be a great struggle of wills to see who ends up getting the prime spot. I've
learned the sofa sleeps quite well. Becca has a need to express her love
often -by giving presents. When someone returns home or even returns to the
room after a long absence, Becca gives socks, shoes, toys, balls, etc to
welcome you back. It can get interesting if there are visitors in the house
and Becca decides that they would like to have an undergarment!! Note to the
wise -11 year old boys really don't appreciate this invasion of privacy :)
She also collects these items and has a secret stash, that her humans don't
know about, under the back deck. We believe she goes to her stash when she
misses someone who is not at home.
She has been a very special part of the family, and I could not imagine not
having her. I wouldn't change anything about her!

I wanted to thank the BHRA for Pollyanna.. I cannot
tell everyone what a joy she has been to our household. I have 2 other
adopted dogs and small Sheppard mix and a beagle mix , I also have 2
adopted kittens (that has just turned a year old) . She blended in the
first day we got her. I have always wanted a basset hound since I was
young….and she has not disappointed me in anyway. She is one of the
sweetest dogs I have ever adopted…
When I brought the kittens home she took to them like they were her
own… She loves to place chase with the other dogs… She also likes
her treats and has figured out if she body slams the bakers rack she can
have them all.. (I have since put them on top of the fridge
J)… The only down side, if
you want to call it a downside is I have a tile kitchen floor… I have
learned (the hard way) to always keep a towel on the floor as not to
slip…. J
I adopted her Jan 2007 and it is like she has always been a part of our family….
Thanks
Andrea

BHRA,
Riley here and I just wanted to give everybody an update since my adoption almost a year ago. I LOVE my new home and my sister (and fellow basset hound) Sophia. We play together all the time and even sleep together on occasion. Mom and Dad say getting me was the smartest thing they ever did and I have to agree! A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped me and especially to Robbie and Everett for making sure I made it to my new home safely! I am living the life that every hound should have and am definitely loved by my "food slaves"! Kristina Adkins |

Hi, I
wanted to bring you an update on my sweet old Hermy—you knew him as Herman
II. I adopted him in January of this year and he and my older rescue dog
Rosie are doing great. They have bonded so nicely, although truth be told
Hermy would rather be with his mom than anyone. We recently had a
western-themed party at my house for some work colleagues, and Hermy dressed
the part in a red bandana, greeting everyone who arrived with a good, old
basset “hooooop”. I look forward every day to getting home to see my dogs. I
told someone recently that I have never had anyone show such pure joy at my
arrival—whether I’ve been gone an hour or all day Hermy is thrilled out of
his mind when I come home. He is like a party in a box! Thanks to everyone
at BHRA who made it possible for Herman to have a place in our lives.

Our family was in search for a new pet when I came across the
B.H.R.A. My husband and I decided to go about the adoption process.
We ended up adopting SPIKE. He is a very good boy. Our whole family
loves him. Spike now has a forever home: 1 dog brother, 5 human
brothers, 1 human sister and 1 human baby. Spike loves all of
them and they all love him...Spike is daddy's pick. He sleeps in the
bed with mom and dad at night and loves to play in the yard with
Buster during the day. In the afternoon Spike likes to lay around
the house and chill with his human family. He loves to have his
belly rubbed and his ears played with. We are all so thankful for
the B.H.R.A. if it were not for y'all we would not have found Spike!
The next time we are in search for another pet we will most
definitely adopt from B.H.R.A. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH:
The Trivett Family

Hello All,
My name is Banjo. I came to my family in Nashville October of last year but honestly, it's like I've has always here!! I have a blast going to the dog park, hiding my rawhide bones around the house for mom to find and playing with my sister dog, Julia. Car rides are my favorite and every night, Mom has to scoot me over to make room in the bed so we can sleep.

Hi!
I just wanted to update you on Ethel Baby! Her name is actually Abby now. I changed it after I realized that Ethel Baby was a little long. She never missed a beat. I guess Baby and Abby sound the same to her. J
She is very eager to please…
ALWAYS!! So sweet, too… like we knew she would be! Loves to
cuddle, of course. However, she has this new thing. When it is
raining outside, she hides. This only started last week. I lost
her! I knew she was in the house, but I didn't know where.
Finally, I heard something in the tub. When I pulled back the
curtain, there she was!
I have taken tomorrow off of work for the soul purpose of spending
the day with her. … Our first visit to the Calera Animal Hospital!
Then shopping at PetSmart before her "day at the spa!" Then to Oak
Mountain for hike even though she'll be all clean then!
J
She has been such a blessing for me! I hope you enjoy the pix!
Thank you!!
